Totally beside the point, but isn 8767 t that exactly the opposite of what 8775 let it go 8776 actually meant in the movie and song? She wasn 8767 t forgetting about her pain and rage she was letting it go in the sense of unleashing it, and turning the whole country into a frozen wasteland.
Even then, it seems weird to me: generally men who are more sexually aggressive have more sex, and men who have already been successful with one or more women are more likely to be successful with future women, who take the fact that someone has already desired him as an indication that he is, in fact, desirable. It seems like, even if it meant getting rejected by 95 women in the tribe, the guy who had slept with 5 women in the tribe would still be viewed as more of a desirable romantic success than the guy who had neither been rejected by, nor slept with any women in the tribe, out of fear of rejection.
our Time is not a good site. Very cluttered, redundant automatic responses ( like photo, flirt etc etc). Worst is that they let people post a profile with no picture. Takes a lot of time to delete the duds. Also a lot of creeps with inappropriate internet names which I won 8767 t repeat here. Expensive $79 a month. So not worth it!
What Laurie Penny points out in her article is that women 8767 s choices are, in fact, very constrained in many cases if not exactly as constrained as Scott Aaronson 8767 s, then at least at the same end of the spectrum. This strongly implies that Scott is going wrong when he tries to work out what women 8766 really think 8767 by trying to observe their dating choices. If you want to know what women think, ask them (this may be easier said than done, but it 8767 s not an unreasonably utopian suggestion either).
I 8767 ve been reading her stuff for years, and she 8767 s certainly a good person. Good people do sometimes get things wrong, and I think she gets Scott Aaronson wrong. In the better bits of the OP, Scott Alexander makes a good case for there being a double-standard in how Laurie has approached this, and I suspect that she would acknowledge this herself, despite enormous tribal incentives not to do so.
Regarding that Atwood quote, in light of the fact that 77% of murder victims in the US are men, it might be more accurate to say that both men and women are afraid that men will kill them.
I really fucking hope that it got better, or at least is getting better, At the same time, I want you to understand that that very real suffering does not cancel out male privilege, or make it somehow alright. Privilege doesn 8767 t mean you don 8767 t suffer, which, I know, totally blows.
But there is this other thing that happens: we talk about it so much that we forget we actually can date normally . We have a burden. We have to deal with shit. It is harder for us. But we can get past this and find good partners and have successful romantic lives.
Scott isn 8767 t writing for you and he isn 8767 t writing for Marcotte he 8767 s writing for guys like him who are starting to recognize that they don 8767 t deserve and aren 8767 t obligated to take this kind of shit off of people like you.
